Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarna (Chairman of the Board)
Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarna founded, and is currently Chairman and CEO of WSO2 an innovative Open Source technology company based in Sri Lanka. Prior to that, he spent nearly 8 years in IBM Research, where he was one of the founders of the Web services platform. In recognition for his company-wide technical leadership, Sanjiva was elected to the IBM Academy of Technology in 2003. Sanjiva has been involved with open source software for many years. Sanjiva also teaches and guides student projects part-time in the Computer Science & Engineering department of the University of Moratuwa. He's a member of the Faculty of Engineering Industry Consultative Board of the university. Prior to joining IBM, Sanjiva spent 3 years at Purdue University as visiting faculty, where he received his Ph.D. in Computer Science in 1994.
Vidya Jothi Prof. Arjuna Aluwihare
Vidya Jothi Prof. Arjuna Aluwihare, Emeritus Professor of Surgery at the University of Peradeniya. Apart from an illustrious career as a surgeon, he has been the Vice Chancellor of his University, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, and Chairman of the Board of Study in Surgery of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine in Colombo, overseeing Surgical Training in the whole country. He is Ex President of the National Academy of Sciences of Sri Lanka, bears several prestigious fellowships from Sri Lanka and abroad and has written widely inclduing a Chapter in the recent Oxford Textbook of Surgery.
Mr. M.D.D. Pieris
Mr. M.D.D. Pieris served in various positions in government as a member of the Ceylon Civil Service and thereafter, the Sri Lanka Administrative Service. Among the positions held were those of Secretary to the Prime Minister and Secretary to the Ministries of Agriculture, Food and Co-operatives; Public Administration Provincial Councils and Home Affairs and Education and Higher Education. He has served and still serves on numerous Boards and Councils in the Public Sector; private sector and the University sector. He is a Bachelor of Arts of the University of Ceylon and a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute, U.K., The University of Colombo has conferred on him the Degree of Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa and the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine has conferred on him the title of Senior Honorary Fellow of the Institute. He was conferred the national honour of Deshamanya in November 2005.
Mr. J Charitha Ratwatte Snr.
Mr. J Charitha Ratwatte Snr. is a lawyer with 38 years experience, who has worked with government and business at the CEO level for over 20 years. He retired from government service from the office of the Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Government of Sri Lanka and currently is the Managing Director of the Sri Lanka Business Development Centre, a non profit provider of business development and consultancy services.
Dr. Sujata Gamage
Dr. Sujata Gamage is a scientist and a knowledge management specialist. She has served as a research administrator at the Ohio Board of Regents, strategic planning specialist for the Ohio State University, consultant to University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka and director general of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka. Currently she heads the Pragati Foundation, a non-profit Foundation dedicated to capacity building through knowledge networks.
Mr. J. Charitha Ratwatte Jr.
Mr. J. Charitha Ratwatte Jr. has five years' experience in the software industry in Sri Lanka. His experience includes working on the winning bid to automate the historic Colombo Tea Auction, extensive engagements in East and West Africa bringing online some of the first automated stock exchanges in the region, and working with a multi-billion-dollar global debt brokerage. Charitha earned an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2009 with concentrations in the Public Management and Global Management Programs. Charitha co-founded and leads Rural Returns (Guarantee) Limited in Sri Lanka, a non-profit company that addresses rural poverty. He volunteers with SL2College, a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to connecting students with free, high-quality advice on higher education options; with the 42nd Colombo Scout Group; and with the Royal College Union, his secondary school's alumni association .
Mr. Nayana Samaranayake
Mr. Nayana Samaranayake attended Royal College where he did his G.C.E. Advance Level Examination in 2000 prior to moving to the United States. Nayana received his B.Sc. in Computer Science with a minor in Economics in 2003 from Illinois Institute of Technology, USA. He then went on to complete a M.Sc. in Computer Science in 2005 from Stanford University, USA. He has since been working for Google Inc as a software engineer in the Web Search Infrastructure group. He is currently based in New York City. Nayana started SL2College as a simple Yahoo group in 2005 to help answer questions related to higher education. In 2008, he joined other volunteers with similar interests to expand SL2College to the organization it currently is.
